If a
material change in the circumstances of the child
or the parent has occurred since an order for child support was first
issued, then the order may be modified by the court. It is up to the
court to decide if the changes warrant a modification and the court
must recalculate the amount of child support based on the legal
guidelines. If the recalculated amount is more than ten percent higher
or lower than the current amount, the court will consider this
sufficient change to modify the order. We will be happy to discuss your
situation and can advise you whether or not to seek a modification of
child support.
