Many people do not know the differences between divorce
and dissolution
of a marriage. A divorce
is an action brought by one of the marital partners against the other
for certain alleged violations of the marital contract which are
considered legal grounds
for
terminating the marriage. The court must find that the grounds are
valid before it will order a marriage terminated. A divorce proceeding
is often contested by the party being sued.
A dissolution, sometimes called a no-fault
divorce, is a mutual
agreement between husband and wife to
terminate the marriage. It requires both partners to agree to all terms
including division
of property, child support,
spousal support, rights and responsibilites of each party, child
custody, visitation, etc. Dissolution is often completed quicker than a
divorce.
We will be happy to discuss
these issues with you and help
determine the right approach for your situation.
