If at first,
a person fails to make the child support payments the court has
ordered, he or she can be held in contempt of court, ordered to pay
costs and attorney's fees of the contempt hearing, and can also be sent
to jail. Later, if a person continues to fail to make payments, he or
she can be criminally charged and subjected to penalties of up to 18
